Sources: Hull City submit formal bid for Leicester City star

Hull City have joined the chase for Leicester City forward Tom Cannon and have bid £5m for the Republic of Ireland international, sources have told Football Insider.

Sunderland, Sheffield United, and Norwich are also keen on Cannon before Friday’s transfer deadline, with Leicester holding out for a fee in the region of £7m for the Republic of Ireland striker.

The 21-year-old hasn’t featured for the Foxes this season and hasn’t even made the match-day squad in their previous two games.

Cannon played 13 times for Leicester last season in the Championship as the club secured promotion back to the Premier League.

The young striker contributed two goals and one assist in the league while also scoring once in the FA Cup.

Cannon is under contract at the King Power Stadium until 2028, which puts the former Premier League champions in a strong negotiating position.

Hull City want Tom Cannon to bolster their attacking options

Cannon is a promising striker who developed through the youth system at Everton, where he scored 29 goals for the Under-19s team and 22 for the Under-21s.

He is proven in the Championship after last season and a spell with Preston North End, having scored 10 times in 33 appearances in the second division.

Hull City have failed to score more than one goal per game in their opening four fixtures this season.

At the other end of the field, Hull City are pushing to add a new goalkeeper to the ranks this season.

Football Insider reported that the Championship club have agreed a deal with Brighton to sign Carl Rushworth on a season-long loan.
