Sources: Leicester City make move to sign PL giants striker

Chelsea are open to offers for David Fofana after Leicester made a preliminary move to sign him, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed Chelsea’s current squad size isn’t sustainable for the upcoming season.

Enzo Maresca aims to shed fringe players to reduce the numbers before the 31st August cut-off, and Fofana is expected to be part of that.

Leicester City are interested in the Ivory Coast international, but several other teams in the Premier League and Europe are monitoring him as well.

Chelsea are open to selling Fofana in this window as long as they receive an offer for the right price.

The striker is under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2029, but the Premier League giants are willing to cut their losses with him.

The 21-year-old has been at the club since 2023 but has failed to secure regular first-team football at Chelsea.

Fofana has only made four appearances for the Blues and has yet to open his account for the club.

Last season he had two loan spells across the campaign, first playing for Molde and then for Burnley.

Fofana did prove his ability to play in the Premier League under Vincent Kompany, scoring four goals in 15 games during his spell at Turf Moor.

Fofana isn’t the only player that’s expected to depart this summer, as Chelsea are looking to sell two academy graduates following Conor Gallagher’s departure.

Football Insider revealed that Trevor Chalobah and Armando Broja are both for sale in this window.
