Sources: Liverpool 27-yr-old set to miss Arsenal clash

Diogo Jota is expected to miss Liverpool’s clash against Arsenal on Sunday with a rib injury, sources have told Football Insider.

The 27-year-old has already been sidelined for his side’s Champions League clash at RB Leipzig on Wednesday night after sustaining the injury in a clash with Tosin Adarabioyo during their 2-1 Premier League win over Chelsea on Sunday (October 20).

Liverpool’s medical team have analysed Jota’s injury to assess whether he has sustained a rib contusion (bruise) or a rib fracture.

If the Portuguese forward has suffered a rib contusion, he would be out for one to two weeks, while a rib fracture necessitates a spell on the sidelines of four to six weeks.

Speaking at his press conference ahead of the tie, Arne Slot gave very little away, saying, “It is always so difficult with injuries, especially if it just happens, to see where they are after a few days.

“He got a knock, like we all saw, when he was trying to go to goal, brought down – that was not the biggest problem – but the other player fell onto him.

“That hurt him that much that he couldn’t continue to play, and he couldn’t come with us for now (to Leipzig).”

Jota has been impressive for Slot’s side so far this season, scoring four goals and providing two assists in 10 games across all competitions.

The injury has happened at a key time for Liverpool, with the Merseyside club set to play three times in the next week.
