Sources: Man City set sights on mega-money signing after double injury blow

Man City have set their sights on Real Madrid forward Rodrygo after a double attacking injury blow, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the 23-year-old is on “City’s radar” as the transfer window draws to a close.

The defending Premier League champions are considering their options in the transfer market after Oscar Bobb’s broken leg injury, while debutant Savinho also broke down during what was a hugely encouraging debut in City’s 2-0 opening-day win over Chelsea.

Pep Guardiola also didn’t want to lose Julian Alvarez, but he has now joined Atletico Madrid, which puts more pressure on Man City’s recruitment team.

Rodrygo is someone who the Premier League outfit are interested in, but sources “would be surprised” if the club were prepared to spend the necessary £70-80million to sign him.

Rodrygo has also indicated that he’s happy to stay and fight for his place at Real Madrid, and he did feature in the recent Super Cup final.

Man City should consider other options than Rodrygo

Despite Man City’s interest in Rodrygo, his desire to stay in Madrid coupled with his price tag could make this transfer a tough one to complete.

The European champions are also not expected to be willing to sell the forward in this window either, which could make any potential deal impossible.

However, with Savinho appearing to get hurt in Man City’s opening game of the Premier League season there will be increasing pressure to find an alternative.

Man City

The Premier League giants had been linked with Liverpool’s Luis Diaz earlier this month.

Football Insider revealed that the Reds will not sell the winger to their rivals, with this being seen as a “non-starter.”
