Hayden Hackney to Tottenham transfer update as Middlesbrough stance emerges

Middlesbrough have no intention of selling Hayden Hackney in the January transfer window amid interest from Tottenham, according to GIVEMESPORT.

The online outlet reported [24 October] that Spurs and Newcastle join a host of Premier League teams in eyeing a move for the 22-year-old.

However, the Championship outfit are not interested in negotiating an exit in the upcoming transfer window, and the North Londoners may have to pursue alternative targets.

Hayden Hackney could be one for the future for Tottenham

Tottenham’s current midfield options for the number six role include the likes of Yves Bissouma, Pape Matar Sarr and Rodrigo Bentancur.

Archie Gray, who the Lilywhites signed from Leeds United for around £30million in the summer [BBC Sport, 2 July], is also a versatile option at Ange Postecoglou’s disposal in the middle of the park.

However, while it seems like the Spurs have enough quality in the engine room, the recent performances from the team indicate that signing a holding midfielder is imperative.

Bissouma has been inconsistent at best during his time at the club, while Bentancur’s performance against Brighton was not encouraging, and he was subsequently dropped to the bench for the West Ham game.

Therefore, it remains to be seen whether the Australian manager will slowly try to phase the Mali international and Uruguayan out of the team in the coming seasons.

Hackney is a talented player who has showcased his potential at Boro over the last few years and is someone the North Londoners should keep tabs on.
