Philippe Clement’s Rangers future will not be affected by the Scottish League Cup final loss against Celtic, sources have told Football Insider.
The Ibrox club lost at Hampden Park on penalties on Sunday (15 December) following a 3-3 draw in 120 minutes.
Clement had come under intense sack scrutiny in the first portion of the 2024-25 campaign.
The Belgian faced fan pressure after failing to qualify for the Champions League group stage and falling behind both Celtic and Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership.
However, sources say Clement has “bought some time” with the valiant performance against the Hoops in the cup final – as well as strong performances in the league and Europe.
Rangers have all but qualified to a Europa League knockout play-off tie in the new year after picking up 11 points from six games.
The Gers could even qualify directly to the last 16 of the competition ahead of their final two league phase games against Man United and Union Saint-Gilloise.
Clement has ‘bought some time’ with recent Rangers results
In the Scottish Premiership, Clement’s side have narrowed the gap to second-place Aberdeen to just two points and can overtake the Dons if they win their game in hand.
However, Rangers are still 12 points adrift of leaders Celtic – who are in pole position to seal a fourth consecutive title.
Clement is yet to win against the Hoops in six meetings since taking charge at Ibrox in October 2023.
The Gers are next in action against Dundee on Saturday (21 December) before facing St Mirren on Boxing Day.
