West Ham could cash in on both Michail Antonio and Danny Ings in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke explained that the January window is the club’s last chance to recoup some money for the pair whose contracts are set to expire at the end of the season.
The Hammers are considering a move to sign a new striker in the January transfer window, and the departure of Antonio, 34, and Ings, 32, would free up space.
As well as bringing in last-minute transfer fees for the players, the club would also clear money from their wage bill which could then be reinvested.
However, sources say the final decision will rest with the players, who could prefer to run down their contracts and explore their options as free agents.
Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed that offers for Antonio will be considered despite his starting role since the arrival of Julen Lopetegui.
West Ham plan to sell Danny Ings and Michail Antonio
Between them, Antonio and Ings have featured in 11 games for West Ham so far this season, scoring just one goal and providing one assist.
As a result, the club are willing to let both strikers leave as soon as January as they attempt to bolster their attacking options.
Lopetegui has been heavily backed in the transfer market since taking over from David Moyes at the beginning of the summer, but has suffered a slow start to the season.
This has led to increasing pressure on his job as well as on technical director Tim Steidten, with the players struggling to adapt to life at the London Stadium.
One signing who has struggled for fitness since his arrival is Niclas Fullkrug, meaning both Antonio and Ings have received more playing time than initially expected.
Now, the Hammers are keen to add another striker to their squad in January who, alongside the German, would push the current options out of the door.
While both strikers are growing increasingly likely to leave the club for free in the summer of 2025, a last-gasp permanent offer would likely be enough to tempt the Hammers to cash in.
In other news, the Hammers board already regret sacking David Moyes.
