Sources: West Ham well placed to beat Everton to signing of blisteringly quick star

West Ham are closely monitoring Tariq Lamptey and are well placed to beat Everton to his signature, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that both Premier League clubs are interested in the 24-year-old who is out of contract at Brighton next summer.

The blisteringly quick full-back has struggled to nail down a regular place with the Seagulls and could agree a pre-contract with a foreign club from January.

Well-placed sources have told Football Insider that one strong is possibility is that the former Chelsea defender could wait and leave on a free transfer in the summer.

Everton are currently short in this area of the pitch and are viewing Lamptey as an option to fill that gap moving forward.

The Merseyside giants would rather wait until summer to do the deal for free, but West Ham are also keeping a close eye on the situation.

Brighton are at risk of losing the full-back for free next summer, which could lead to the Premier League side pushing him out of the door in January to try and earn some money from his sale.

Lamptey has only made one appearance in the Premier League this season, and he did provide an assist in that 10-minute cameo.

The full-back has played three times in the EFL Cup and scored once, but game time has been limited at Brighton this season.

Lamptey has played 90 times in the Premier League throughout his career, providing plenty of experience to any future club.

Football Insider revealed that Everton are expected to have more money to spend than usual in January, which could end up going on Lamptey if Sean Dyche decides to make him a priority.
