Southampton have a new injury out in the form of Ryan Fraser for their Premier League contest with Everton as boss Russell Martin provided an update on a sickness bug in the camp.
Winger Fraser, 30, has featured for times for the Saints so far this season but any inclusion on Saturday (2 November) looks uncertain.
Martin, though, did add that those suffering with a bug midweek have no trained and are available to face the Toffees at St Mary’s Stadium.
In quotes reported by the Daily Echo (1 November), Martin said: “I think everyone’s pretty much recovered, everyone trained today,” Martin said, previewing his side’s game against the Toffees.
“I think Ryan Fraser is probably the only injury concern we have, after coming off early the other night.
“We’ll assess him again in the morning. He did a little bit today, we’ll have to assess him again in the morning and see if he’s available.”
Everton can extend their unbeaten run to six
Everton’s current run of form is certainly a positive one although defeat against fellow strugglers Southampton could see all of that work undone.
Sean Dyche’s side have won two of their last five, drawing the other three and have picked up some much-needed points.
The Saints currently sit rock bottom of the Premier League having accumulated just one point in their opening nine games.
Martin’s side look all but destined to fall into the Championship and injuries certainly won’t help their fight.
With that said, Everton can’t afford to approach the game with any arrogance or expectancy to win. Southampton will be up for the fight and Everton will still need to be at their best to get three points.
The recent draw with Fulham earned the Toffees a point but the performance was described as “horrendous” with Beto sparing their blushes with a last-minute equaliser.
Everton will need to put on a better showing this weekend to achieve a better result.
In other Everton news, Sean Dyche is set to name Harrison Armstrong in his matchday squad to face Southampton.
