'Special' - Everton youngster signs new three-year deal, Thelwell speaks out

Everton director of football Kevin Thelwell has lauded youngster Harrison Armstrong after the youngster signed what he describes as a “special” first professional contract.

Armstrong, 18, has penned a maiden pro deal until 2027 with the Toffees, as confirmed via the club’s official website [3 July], having joined aged just five.

Everton announced at the end of last season which youngsters would be remaining at Goodison Park as well as those moving on, and Armstrong is another name to add to the list of promising starlets elevated to the next stage of their fledgling careers.

Thelwell said of the deal for the midfielder: “This contract is just reward for Harrison’s hard work and progress at Everton. He’s been a part of this club for 13 years and has developed through the age groups.

“We look forward to seeing him continue his journey under the guidance of our excellent Academy staff at Finch Farm.”

Everton secure Harrison Armstrong for three years

Amid all the chaos that has surrounded Everton for a long period of time, the fact the club are continuing to prioritise youth development is hugely encouraging.

Armstrong has progressed well, with the Toffees pointing out that he had broken into the Under-21 side under Paul Tait towards the end of 2023-24, playing in nine of their last 10 league matches, following 18 games with Leighton Baines’ U18 team.

The news arrives alongside confirmation that 16-year-old striker Braiden Graham, who became Linfield’s youngest-ever player last season at just 15, will move across the Irish Sea to Merseyside and continue his development programme at Finch Farm.

A central midfielder, Armstrong told evertonfc.com that it was a “special” feeling to get the deal over the line, comparing the new deal to breaking into the U21 side.
