Everton 'Big Favourites' to sign yet another young sensation after 3-deal blitz confirmed - report

Everton and Brighton are leading the race to sign youngster Mason Melia from St. Patrick’s Athletic, TEAMtalk reports.

According to the outlet’s website on 3 July the Toffees are battling the Seagulls ahead a host of interested Premier League sides as they look to add a fourth “sensation” to their set up this summer.

Everton have reportedly put a “real focus” on “exciting” talents and only confirmed a deal for former Arsenal attacker Omari Benjamin on 2 July, while two more arrivals have been made official a day as Partick Thistle’s announced Ceiran Loney’s move and Linfield announced Braiden Graham’s.

Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City are all said to like the 16-year-old but the Toffees and Brighton are “big favourites” as both are prepared to close a deal for Melia then let him stay with St. Patrick’s until he is 18.

Sean Dyche indicated that there were few prospects in the club’s academy that were ready to break through and help the first team last season [Liverpool Echo, 9 March] and it looks like the club took notice.

Completing deals for three talented prospects in the space of two days has shown some major intent to restock the next generation on Merseyside, and if they can land a fourth in Melia that will be even more of an impressive haul.

The youngster has already been playing senior football in Ireland, having made his debut at 15, and has amassed 39 appearances so far, scoring seven times.

It was only a year ago that it appeared Everton were having to sell the future for short-term gain as the likes of Ellis Simms and Ishé Samuels-Smith left for modest fees amid the ongoing financial issues at Goodison Park.

Sean Dyche said the Everton academy had few prospects ready to break through last season.

Finally it seems the tide has turned and there is now a drive to make up for those that were sacrificed previously.

And with Iliman Ndiaye’s permanent arrival in the first team also now confirmed to take the number of senior recruits for the transfer window to three, after Tim Ireogbunam and Jack Harrison, it has been a positive week so far for the Toffees.

There may yet be high-profile departures this summer but in light of how recent transfer windows have proven to be a depressing slog there has been a noticeable improvement of late.

In other Everton news, the Toffees can now snap up a “highly-coveted” attacking target for well below £1million.
