SPFL block Rangers fixture plan as talks continue amid Ibrox chaos - report

Rangers will still be expected to host home games to begin the Scottish Premiership season despite ongoing issues at Ibrox, according to the Daily Record.

The outlet have reported (26 June) that the SPFL are delaying talks with the Gers around “potential switches” until fixtures are released on Thursday (27 June).

This means that Rangers are “very unlikely” to just have away fixtures to begin the season amid ongoing stadium issues.

Their opening home fixtures will not be reversed to away games despite not being able to host games at Ibrox to begin the campaign.

Rangers forced into home fixtures despite Ibrox situation

The construction work at Ibrox has been delayed and as a result, it remains unlikely the Gers will play games there to begin the season.

This has seen the club consider using other stadiums like Murrayfield as alternatives but that could cause issues anyway.

Packing up and moving miles away, even for just a few games, is certainly going to be frustrating for fans who will have to travel.

The idea that the Rangers hierarchy want to play all the opening games away from home to begin the season was never going to get accepted.

If that happened, by the end of the season there would be an unfair advantage as they would have almost every game at Ibrox.

A move is going to be necessary and the frustration is going to come with that but that is the only way around the issues.

It is a poor situation to have gotten into and Philippe Clement will be hopeful it doesn’t hamper his side’s form.

In other Rangers news, the club will now be paying an extra £1million to seal yet another summer transfer.
