Andy Walker believes the “mismanagement” at Rangers is “staggering” after it was revealed at their AGM that they’d only made £810,000 from the sales of five players in the summer.
Among those players included the likes of Sam Lammers, Todd Cantwell and Connor Goldson.
Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show (5 December), Walker shared his thoughts on the situation with ex-Rangers ace Craig Moore also chipping in.
“£800,000 for five players is not good business,” Moore said. “Rangers I think that was a situation that was certainly mismanaged, I think they needed to be ahead in the game in terms of being proactive rather than it coming out in the media and all that sort of stuff.
“All of a sudden, it started to drive the value of players down because of the situation of the club.”
To which Walker replied: “The mismanagement is staggering isn’t it?”
Rangers and Philippe Clement need to buck their ideas up in the next transfer windows
After last summer ended with most Rangers fans rather underwhelmed by the moves their team made in the transfer market, it feels like it has to be rectified over the next couple of windows.
The January transfer window is now just around the corner and while it’s evident that the Gers don’t have all that much money to splash, reinforcement is certainly needed.
Indeed, their last couple of results have been more than decent with the team beating Nice 4-1 in the Europa League and then Kilmarnock 6-0 in the Scottish Premiership.
The fact that Philippe Clement chose to change his formation and try out his team with two number nines shows that he wants the best for the team and he’ll try anything in his power to ensure their season doesn’t end with them being third in the table.
There’s still time for things to change before January of course but at the moment, it feels like the Ibrox outfit could do with at least slightly strengthening their ranks, if it’s possible for them to do so.
In other Rangers news, John Gilligan issued a £10 million update at the AGM.
