Chelsea’s owners can help the sale process if they don’t appear to be “desperate” following the recent takeover battle at Stamford Bridge.
That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider they could receive a better price from a potential buyer if there doesn’t look to be any rush to sell.
Bloomberg reported on 6 September Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly wants to buy out Behdad Eghbali’s Clearlake Capital after relations between the pair have soured in recent months.
Clearlake secured a 61.5 per cent stake in the London giants following the £4.25billion takeover in May 2022, while Boehly and fellow billionaires Mark Walter and Hansjorg Wyss each hold 12.8 per cent shareholdings.
Despite the recent boardroom tensions, Boehly and Eghbali have been pictured together at the latest Chelsea games following a good run of form.
Chelsea owners still want to agree takeover deal
But Borson doesn’t believe the situation will have changed for either party behind the scenes.
He told Football Insider: “I can’t see how the story will have come out in the first place and then for days later for the whole thing to have been resolved.
“It seems unlikely to me. A couple of pictures don’t necessarily change anything.
“It will help them have a constructive sale process for either one of their stakes if it looks like it’s not a desperate sale.
“If they look like they are both relaxed either way and, therefore, are not in any great rush or pressure to sell and don’t mind if they sell or not, then that will obviously get them a better price from a buyer.
“The last thing you want in any sale process is to look desperate.
“As long as they can maintain that none of them are desperate, then that might be the plan.”
