Scottish media have hailed Nicolas Raskin after his performance for Rangers in the 1-1 draw against Olympiacos.
The Gers travelled to Greece to take on Jose Luis Mendilibar’s team on 7 November in the Europa League group stage, with the 23-year-old midfielder playing the entire game.
Cyriel Dessers equalised for the Light Blues after Ayoub El Kaabi gave the hosts the lead, but it was Raskin who earned the plaudits of many.
The Daily Record in their newspaper [8 November, pg 50] gave the Belgian a rating of 8/10, writing: “Superb reading of the game saw him constantly plugging gaps as soon as they appeared.”
On page 87 of the Scottish Daily Mail [8 November], the 23-year-old was once again given 8/10, with the newspaper writing: “A little rash at times, but what he lacked in composure he made up for in commitment. Left everything out there.”
The Scottish Sun [8 November, pg 54] wrote: “Slack on the ball at times early on but constantly looked for it, and he worked tirelessly in a packed midfield.”
Nicolas Raskin emerging as key player for Rangers
Philippe Clement hasn’t had much to look forward to this season, with the Bears struggling to get results.
Apart from being unable to put points on board, the Ibrox faithful have been frustrated with the lack of quality in the team’s performances in the current campaign.
The Belgian manager is under pressure, with Rangers sitting nine points behind leaders Celtic and Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership.
Several players have had poor starts to the 2024/25 season, but it looks like Clement can count on one of his compatriots to bail him out in the coming fixtures.
Raskin missed the opening games due to an injury and has slowly been integrated back into the squad, starting in the last five fixtures in all competitions.
Against Olympiacos, the midfielder had 75 per cent passing accuracy, created four chances, completed eight passes into the final third, won four tackles, made four interceptions, had one clearance and block, and won 11 of his duels, as per FotMob.
Since making his way to Glasgow, the Belgian has had his fair share of fitness issues and hasn’t been able to showcase the full extent of his talent.
Hopefully, the 23-year-old can keep up his form with Hearts next for the Bears in the league on 10 November.
In other Rangers news, Ally McCoist was left stunned by what Dessers did in Greece.
