‘The best’: Paul Pogba says he saw a young player at Manchester United who reminded him of Neymar

Manchester United have produced some incredibly talented players over the past few years.

The likes of Kobbie Mainoo, Marcus Rashford and Scott McTominay are all success stories from the academy, but for every Mainoo or Rashford, there’s a player who doesn’t quite make it.

Adnan Januzaj and Federico Macheda were both tipped for huge things at Old Trafford before their development took a hit, but perhaps the best example of a player in this mould is Ravel Morrison.

Many have stated that Morrison had some level of god-given talent that was never truly fulfilled, and speaking to The Mail, Paul Pogba has now told a similar story.

Paul Pogba says Ravel Morrison was the best player of his generation

Pogba spoke incredibly highly of Morrison, stating that he is the most talented player born in 1993.

Pogba went as far as to claim that Morrison reminded him of Neymar during his time at Manchester United.

Unfortunately, Morrison’s career didn’t go to plan, and Pogba acknowledges that the former United youngster made some mistakes along the way.

“Let me tell you. Ravel is the best player of my generation, the generation, 1993, that I have seen,” Pogba said.

“Yes, no doubt, I’m telling you. I saw stuff, Neymar quality when he was at Santos that Ravel was doing with us.

“Yeah, Rav, the biggest talent of our generation for sure. In a way I feel sorry, but at the same time players have this responsibility, and he knows it, he realises that if he had to make it again he wouldn’t make the same choice he’s made in the past years.”

What happened to Ravel Morrison?

Morrison is spoken about in such glowing terms by anyone who played with him at youth level, but, ultimately, he’s never made the grade at the top-level.

So, what happened to Ravel Morrison after he left Manchester United?

Morrison would go on to sign for West Ham, where his form was patchy to say the least. Although, he did produce a memorable performance against Tottenham in 2013.

Morrison would eventually be sent out on numerous loans from West Ham before landing at Lazio in 2015 for a four-year stint where he made just a handful of appearances.

The 31-year-old would return to English football with Sheffield United in 2019, but, once again, things didn’t go to plan on that front and Morrison was eventually shipped out on loan to Middlesbrough.

Since then, he’s played for numerous clubs such as Derby County, DC United and he’s currently playing in the second-tier of the UAE League.

Morrison was said to have huge talent as a youngster, but, unfortunately we never got to see that talent on the senior stage.
