One Tottenham player has completed more sprints than Arsenal's Martinelli in PL this season, it's not Van de Ven

Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal both have high hopes for this season and both have shown signs that they have what it takes to succeed.

Tottenham aren’t quite the finished product and there are mistakes that need ironing out, but the potential is there, as seen by the 3-0 win at Manchester United.

Meanwhile, Arsenal have made real progress with each passing season and will fancy their chances of finally getting their hands on the Premier League title.

The October international break temporarily put a halt to proceedings, but the Premier League resumes this weekend and it’ll be exciting to see how both teams do.

BBC Sport and Opta have now posted an article in which they have looked at a number of player statistics from the season, and both Tottenham and Arsenal feature prominently.

For instance, Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven has been the fastest player this season (37.1km/h) – which isn’t a surprise, as everyone knows about his blistering pace.

However, Van de Ven is not the Spurs player with the most completed sprints this season – the honour falls to one of the Lilywhites’ midfielders.

However, said player has still clocked up considerably more completed sprints than the Arsenal player with the highest amount, namely Gabriel Martinelli.

Tottenham’s Dejan Kulusevski has completed more Premier League sprints than Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli

The Tottenham player in question is Dejan Kulusevski, who has gone from strength to strength for both Spurs and Sweden this season.

Kulusevski has completed 142 sprints in the Premier League so far this season, putting him fifth in the list of the league’s leading sprinters from each club.

Meanwhile, Martinelli has completed 119 sprints, putting him 15th in the table, though the Brazilian is also Arsenal’s fastest player, having clocked up 35.6km/h.

The Premier League player with the most completed sprints this season is Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon, with his tally of 187 comfortably putting him top.

As per the article, Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson is second on 157, Fulham’s Antonee Robinson is third with 154, and Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo is fourth on 149.

Kulusevski eager to maintain momentum after Sweden heroics

Kulusevski has been superb for Tottenham this term and he also dazzled for Sweden against Slovakia and Estonia this month.

For instance, Swedish newspaper Fotbollskanalen gave the Spurs man a 4 out of 5 rating against Slovakia, saying he was “definitely the best player on the pitch”.

The same outlet gave Kulusevski a 3 out of 5 score against Estonia, saying he was “very involved” and delivered a “great performance”.
