Juventus are likely to face competition from both Chelsea and Newcastle to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin from Everton in the winter window, according to GiveMeSport.
The outlet reported via their website on 15 October that the two Premier League clubs could make renewed attempts to sign the exit-linked striker in January, where the Serie A giants face a “difficult” but not impossible task of signing him permanently.
Calvert-Lewin held talks with Newcastle during the summer transfer window as part of a deal that would have seen Yakuba Minteh move the other way but negotiations broke down [TBR Football, 25 August].
He was also included in discussions between Everton and Chelsea towards the end of the window, with either Armando Broja and David Datro Fofana [HITC, 30 August] or Axel Disasi and Fofana offered in return [GiveMeSport, 2 September].
He has entered the final year of his contract at Goodison Park but according to TEAMtalk on 13 October he is now negotiating an extension.
Juventus want Everton strikers in January transfer window
If Calvert-Lewin signs a new deal in the coming weeks the chance of him leaving probably disappears since neither of the English suitors pushed for him in the summer when he had a year left.
The expected takeover from Farhad Moshiri by The Friedkin Group looks likely to increase the chances that the striker’s future is wrapped up by January.
He is said to have rejected the chance to reopen talks over an extension last month [i News, 4 October], so if talks are now back on it is surely a result of Friedkin’s deal being announced.
However, if he is down to the final months of his deal by the New Year all the interested sides will sense an opportunity, so Manchester United also entering the equation would be little surprise after links during the summer [Liverpool Echo, 14 August].
Beto is also a target for Juventus on loan, although they look unlikely to be successful in securing him [TEAMtalk, 13 October].
Chelsea also have Armando Broja on loan at Everton on a deal which has yet to see the Toffees pay a penny as he is yet to feature in a match-day squad [Liverpool Echo, 31 August].
If the Londoners were particularly serious about trying to sign Calvert-Lewin they may be open to offering further favourable terms for a permanent deal on the Albanian, who currently has a £30million option in his loan agreement [ESPN, 31 August].
In other Everton news, a journalist believes the Toffees might have just scored a massive own-goal.
