Tottenham Hotspur can seemingly never have a straightforward week.
Spurs just picked up one of their greatest ever Premier League results after beating Manchester City 4-0 at the Etihad on Saturday.
However, after the game, some bad news emerged.
Guglielmo Vicario picked up a serious injury during the City game.
Tottenham’s players have supported Vicario as much as they can, but, sadly, the Italian is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Alasdair Gold has been discussing the repercussions of Vicario’s injury, and he says that Spurs may now accelerate a move for a new goalkeeper in January due to this problem.
Tottenham could move for a new goalkeeper
Gold spoke about Tottenham’s January transfer plans and how they could change.
The journalist says that Spurs could now accelerate a move for a new goalkeeper in the coming weeks after the £17m man’s injury.
“We have been talking about the goalkeeping situation. We spoke about it in the video before last, the indication is that they will be looking for someone long-term to compete with Vicario. This whole situation now probably accelerates that to a degree, because they will be without him for months,” Gold said.
Who could Tottenham sign in January?
Tottenham could be set for a busy transfer window in the winter as they look for a new goalkeeper and potentially a few other new additions.
Lucas Chevalier has been linked to Spurs as a goalkeeping option, while Tottenham looked at Tomasso Martinelli in the summer.
Meanwhile, Ange Postecoglou also wants another creative midfielder.
Tottenham were the biggest spenders in the Premier League this summer as they concluded numerous big-money deals.
Tottenham summer signings Fee Dominic Solanke £65m Archie Gray £40m Wilson Odobert £25m Lucas Bergvall £8m
Whether or not Daniel Levy will allow Spurs to spend more in January remains to be seen, but the goalkeeping situation in north London is now a pressing issue.
The January transfer window is always so important for any team looking to kick on, and Tottenham’s business this winter will be vital as they push for a place in the top four this season.
