'They shouldn't': Manchester United told there's too much pressure on young duo amid talk of Ten Hag's future

It’s never a quiet day at Manchester United and don’t expect that to change anytime soon.

Talk of Erik ten Hag’s future continues to rumble on, with Manchester United sitting 14th in the Premier League table and drawing their first two Europa League matches.

One thing you can’t argue is that the players are trying, but the quality and the end result everyone wants doesn’t seem to be there.

That was proven when Manchester United recorded a goalless draw at Aston Villa on Sunday, with the game lacking any real quality, especially in the final third.

That performance just increased the talk around ten Hag’s future, with many wondering if he will be in the dugout for Manchester United‘s home clash against Brentford after the international break.

Tottenham outclassed Manchester United at Old Trafford last time out, so the fear will be that the same will happen again.

Forget about ten Hag for a moment, but you just know there is serious pressure on the shoulders of the players, from Marcus Rashford to captain Bruno Fernandes.

But Stephen Warnock feels two young guns at Manchester United are unnecessarily shouldering the burden of pressure.

The former Premier League left-back feels that there is ‘so much pressure’ on Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho, as he told The Football Show on Sky Sports (07/10/24 at 10:15 am).

Too much pressure on Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho at Manchester United

“Can I just go back to Mainoo and Garnacho,” said Warnock. “Those two players shouldn’t be burdening so much on their shoulders within the team.

“There is so much pressure on them two players because of the potential. I would say Garnacho has been managed in a different way this season. I think Mainoo has struggled a little bit because he has come off the back of a Euros, probably hasn’t had that rest that he needs as a youngster.

“There is a lot of pressure on his shoulders to be that star performer in midfield. He doesn’t have a senior figure alongside him in midfield. I think he has suffered at the start of the season. I don’t think it’s a major problem, but in an ideal world, you would drip-feed him into the team. He wouldn’t be playing every game, but that’s the way it is.”

Senior Manchester United players need to step up

Jonny Evans put on a masterclass for Manchester United against Aston Villa and led the way on the pitch as a senior player.

You sense more players need to do that rather than allow ten Hag to take verbal beating after verbal beating from the media.

From the skipper to the out-of-sorts Rashford. Fans are tired of seeing the same old rubbish and hearing the same old rubbish.

The only way to stop all this talk is by constantly putting wins on the board, or else, Manchester United will enter another new phase of having to rebuild.
