Paul Robinson has lauded Daniel Levy and his “incredible business nous” after the news that Tottenham are set to increase their income through non-football events.
The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has struck an agreement with the Haringey Borough Council to increase the number of non-football events, such as concerts, from 16 to 30 per year [Official website].
This news massively impressed financial expert Kieran Maguire, who stated that since leaving White Hart Lane, Levy has tripled Spurs’ commercial income from £70million to £220million, which is now going to only increase [The Price of Football podcast].
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Robinson said: “Daniel Levy deserves a lot of credit for where he’s put the club off the field. Everyone talks about Spurs having the best stadium in the world, the best training ground in the world, the best facilities. They even have a racetrack underneath the stadium.
“The innovative way he thinks of generating money and how he takes the club forward… Spurs were the richest club in London not so long ago, and that’s down to him.
“The frustration from supporters comes from the performances on the pitch and the lack of silverware, and maybe sometimes some of the investment going onto the pitch.
“If you look at what Levy has created off the field, whether it be the training grounds, links with the NFL, links with those teams, the racing track, and now with these concerts and other events, it’s a fantastic business and driving revenue for the club.
“It’s making it a more attractive business proposition for someone to buy in the future. He’s got incredible business nouse. The frustration rather comes from the lack of success on the pitch.”
Daniel Levy hailed for off-the-pitch Tottenham developments
While Levy is rarely ever a popular figure at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, his business knowledge is second to none when it comes to making a profit through a football club.
The Spurs owner is often criticised for some of his decisions that negatively affect the fanbase, such as rising ticket prices or the cost of a new jersey, but he cannot be flawed for his off-the-pitch ideas.
Striking a deal with the Haringey Borough Council could have huge impacts on the club’s on-pitch investments over the coming seasons, which could benefit Ange Postecoglou’s plans in North London.
That’s what all parties at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium want.
