Jason Cundy and Jamie O’Hara have admitted they “don’t get” the conversations surrounding Ange Postecoglou’s future at Tottenham.
Spurs currently find themselves sitting 10th in the table after an inconsistent start to the season, which continued when they lost to previously winless Ipswich Town before the international break.
With high expectations of the 59-year-old in North London, his side’s inconsistencies have led to questions about whether he can take Spurs to the top.
However, former Spurs midfield O’Hara is surprised by the talk, reacting to his co-host by saying on talkSPORT [22 November]: “Anyone that’s talking about Postecoglou’s job, I just don’t get it or see it.
“He’s three points off Arsenal and Chelsea. I don’t. It’s so tight that the problem you’ve got right now is if you lose two games, you can sit 14th, if you win two, you can go third or fourth.
“That is exactly what it looks like right now. I just don’t get the argument.”
Where can Ange Postecoglou take Tottenham?
Tottenham’s inconsistency this season could be Postecoglou’s downfall with high expectations from the Spurs fans after they just missed out on a Champions League spot last season.
Their form this season has seen them win five, lose five and draw one of their games including losses against relegation-threatened sides Ipswich Town and Crystal Palace, which is what could be making fans panic.
There have been some suggestions that the boss is at a loss as Ian Darke suggested he is ‘restless’ and running out of ideas on how to fix his side’s form.
However, the Australian boss has also shown good progress in North London since his arrival, particularly on the pitch with the Lilywhites playing some really good football, which key players like Son Heung-min have thrived under.
Going into the weekend, Spurs are only three points away from Chelsea in third place although they come up against tough opposition in Manchester City.
While it may be too soon to talk about sacking Postecoglou, it is certain that he needs to figure out how to make his side tick if he wants to deliver long-term success in North London.
In other Tottenham news, Rodrigo Bentancur’s ban has left the club set to appeal.
