Bryan King has blasted Tottenham for not resolving Son Heung-min’s future sooner.

The ex-Spurs scout believes Spurs have handled the 32-year-old’s contract situation poorly.

It comes as Fanatik report (19 November) that Galatasaray are considering a move for Son which would “make a splash all over the world” amid concerns over the South Korean’s long-term future in North London.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano via X (13 November), Tottenham have started the process of activating a clause in Son’s contract to extend his stay with the club by a year.

However, King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes extending Son’s contract by one year is the least the club can do, having previously called for the club to offer their captain a fresh two-year deal.

“Son’s contract situation should have been sorted three months ago,” King said.

“The option is there to extend for a year, the player is there, you know what he has done for the football club. A one-year extension? That is the least Tottenham could do.

“I think it is poor business that they have let it go on as long as they have. This deal should have been done, and Son’s future should have been guaranteed.

“He is a great asset, both on the pitch and off it. You think about every game Spurs play at home, there are always a lot of people from South Korea who come to watch him, that must be good business.

“I’d imagine that Spurs might be selling as many shirts in South Korea as they are in England.”

Galatasaray to sign Tottenham star Son Heung-min?

It appears as though Son’s camp are unhappy with Tottenham over the club’s decision to simply extend Son’s deal until 2026, rather than offer the player a new contract (via TBR Football, 8 November).

Therefore, if a club such as Galatasaray were to come in for Son, it is not completely unrealistic that the forward might push for a move away.

Confusion has emerged as to why Spurs wouldn’t consider offering Son a new deal which would prevent any further talk of a potential transfer. However, at the moment it doesn’t seem as though there are any plans to do so, as the North London side push on with their plans to extend Son’s deal by one year.

As a result, interested parties will have been alerted to Son’s situation in North London, which might come as a concern to Ange Postecoglou.

However, despite his age, the Spurs captain wouldn’t come cheap, with a £50million price tag being speculated.

In other Tottenham news, the club are set to appeal Rodrigo Bentancur’s ban.
