Bryan King has hailed the attacking play of Everton after their 3-2 defeat against Aston Villa on Saturday (14 September).

The ex-Goodison scout believes the Toffees could have “quite easily” taken a point away from Villa Park.

For the second time in as many games, Everton let a 2-0 lead slip to lose 3-2.

However, King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – was still able to find some positives in the club’s performance at Villa Park.

“They have a serious problem defensively,” King said.

“However, to be fair to Everton, they could have quite easily drawn the game 3-3. They continued to make chances, even if they were breakaway chances.

“It was an unbelievable first half. Everton were hardly in the game for the first 25 minutes, then all of a sudden they’re winning 2-0.

“Villa players were getting caught in possession and ball-watching. However, the moment they got that goal before half-time, it just seemed as if there was no way they were going to lose that match.”

Sean Dyche and Everton in trouble after defeat v Aston Villa?

To let a 2-0 lead slip is bad enough. However, for the same thing to happen two matches in a row is disastrous.

As a result of this latest defeat, the confidence in the Everton changing room will no doubt be at an all-time low. However, Dyche has to ensure that he can lift his players.

While they were once again poor at the back against Villa, they showed much more promise going forward, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin finding himself in two one-on-one situations.

Villa are a top side and if the Toffees can create high-quality chances against them, that should give them some confidence amid a dreadful run of form.

Therefore, once Jarrad Branthwaite is back in the side, there are signs that the club could turn this poor form around.

In other Everton news, the club may regret their transfer decision on one player after what he did for his new club.
