Everton will have to pay Sean Dyche for an extra year if they sack him this season, according to The Esk’s information.
The Toffees blogger made the claim on Talking The Blues on 15 September as explanation for why the the former Burnley boss wouldn’t resign, with his contract currently set to expire next summer.
According to the terms believed to be in his contract at Goodison Park there is “no incentive” for him to walk away.
He said (42m 15s): “Let’s be clear, Dyche is not going to do that. And one of the reason’s why Dyche isn’t going to do that, if my information is correct, and it’s been said by others, if Dyche was to be fired this season, his contract expires at the end of the season but if he was to be fired before that he’s due another 12 months’ salary.
“If that’s wrong then I apologise to the club and I apologise to Dyche but to the best of my information it’s accurate. So there’s no incentive for Dyche to walk away.”
Sean Dyche safe at Everton till Farhad Moshiri sells to John Textor?
There had to be some doubts over whether Farhad Moshiri would be prepared to sack the manager even if he only had to pay off him and his staff for the rest of the season, considering the tight finances.
So if there is another year added onto the obligation if he makes the move before the end of the campaign Dyche looks pretty safe for now.
The same can’t necessarily be said if John Textor manages to complete a takeover [TBR Football, 13 September], but it likely would take results bad enough for Moshiri to genuinely fear for Premier League survival already if the current owner is to pull the trigger.
Arguably that point won’t be far off if current form doesn’t improve but it would only take a couple of wins to lift the gloom considerably.
TBR Football reported on 13 September that a change could be made if results don’t improve by the next international break in October, although the Telegraph reported the same day the intention to back him for the rest of the campaign.
The interim board don’t feel they have the authority to go about giving Dyche a contract extension, not that they would in the current circumstances, but they likely won’t therefore feel they can move to get rid of him.
A change at manager would have a big impact on the current takeover situation, but it is surely very tricky from a regulatory perspective for Textor to have any say on the matter while he is still a part-owner at Crystal Palace.
He may be drawing together investment for his proposed ownership on Merseyside [Bloomberg, 13 September] but until he sells his 45 per cent at Selhurst Park it is going nowhere fast [Guardian, 10 September].
It certainly looks like all sides would like to avoid a sacking if they possibly can until a change of ownership, but Dyche and his players are going to need to find a way to stop throwing away two-goal leads to relieve the increasing pressure.
In other Everton news, “crucial” squad spots have been left available for the Toffees to add free agent signings.
