'There is a sense...' - BBC journalist issues claim on Sean Dyche sack post Everton takeover

Everton are likely to look to change managers under new owners eventually, according to Phil McNulty.

The BBC journalist claims that there is a sense of inevitability that they’d want their own manager to be put in charge of the club.

Thus far, Sean Dyche has the support of the board and is not under immediate sack danger but at the same time, there is no indication of him being offered a new contract with his current one running out at the end of the season.

McNulty wrote on 16 September at 10:14: “Everton have made it clear Sean Dyche still has the support of the club’s hierarchy behind the scenes and at the moment it does not look as if anyone has the power or is inclined to make a managerial change even if they wanted to, that is even before you get to the financial implications of such a decision.

“Dyche did a fine job last season after another terrible start but this has been worse and the manager needs to find solutions fast.

“Everton simply cannot afford to get relegated with the new stadium coming next season, which will focus minds, and there is a sense of inevitability that if new owners comes in, they will want their own manager.

“Dyche is into the final season of his contract with no indication he will be offered a new deal, which suggests change will come eventually, even if it is for the start of next season.”

Everton are expected to show Sean Dyche the door eventually

At the time of the takeover, the club’s new owners will likely assess whether the team’s trajectory aligns with their vision for the club, particularly with the looming move to a new stadium.

Dyche, known for his pragmatic approach, has been instrumental in ensuring survival, which might not align with the new owners’ ambitions for progressive, attractive football that could elevate the Toffees’ status in the Premier League.

Given the Englishman’s contract situation and the lack of a new deal, there’s an underlying expectation that the new ownership might seek a manager whose style and philosophy better reflect their long-term goals.

This potential managerial change would aim not just at avoiding relegation but at building a team capable of challenging for higher honours, reflecting a strategic shift towards a more ambitious playing style and club identity.

It remains to be seen first who the new owners are and whether or not they can invest the kind of money into the club that would attract top-calibre managers as it’s a lot easier said than done.

In other Everton news, a finance expert has issued a “criminal” verdict as the Toffees learn the result of a multi-million controversy.
