Tottenham missing out on next Harry Kane amid £140m transfer reveal

Tottenham may be missing out on the next Harry Kane, according to the latest research.

Kane, Spurs’ all-time leading goal scorer, left the club for Bayern Munich in an £82m last summer.

He enjoyed a stellar first season in Germany, where scored 44 times and provided 12 assists in 45 appearances.

Ultimately, the campaign ended in disappointment as Bayern had their first trophyless season for over a decade, while his England side lost in the final of Euro 2024.

But Kane‘s individual performances continue to mark him out as the finest academy graduate in Spurs history.

However, the latest study from an industry authority suggests that Hotspur Way is falling behind in terms of the number of top players it is producing.

Spurs’ academy lagging behind Big Six rivals

There is no denying that Spurs have now built a squad underpinned with a whole host of talented youngsters.

Archie Gray signed for £40m from Leeds earlier this summer, while Lucas Bergvall has now officially joined several months after his transfer from Djurgården was arranged.

Now, Spurs are closing in on the signing of a third 18-year-old, South Korean winger Yang Min-hyuk from Gangwon.

This flurry of youthful additions illustrates a change in strategy implemented by sporting director Johan Lange.

However, the latest analysis from the influential European Club Association in collaboration with Football Benchmark suggests that the pathway from the academy to the first team is perhaps not so clear.

According to the report, Spurs are the only one of the so-called Big Six clubs who are not in the top-20 sides in Europe for successful transitions from the academy to the first team over the last five years.

Man City, Man United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Wolves all featured in the list, and the Premier League was the most productive league in Europe according to the data.

The likes of Liverpool, Man City and Chelsea have earned hundreds of millions in recent years selling homegrown players who have barely featured for the first team,

In the last five years, Spurs have earned £140m through this source, although that is almost thanks entirely to Kane.
