Tottenham ready bid to sign Javi Puado in cut-price January forward transfer

Espanyol forward Javi Puado has emerged as an option for Tottenham ahead of the January transfer window, according to La Razon.

The Madrid-based newspaper reports via its website (16 October) that Spurs have been impressed by the 26-year-old while monitoring loan player Alejo Veliz’s progress at Espanyol.

Puado could be available for a cut-price deal in January as his contract expires at the end of the season and the La Liga club could cash in on him to avoid losing him for free.

Javi Puado could replace Timo Werner at Tottenham

On paper, Spurs are not in immediate need of an attacker, with the club having at least two options in each of the three positions in attack.

However, there is a case to be made about Puado potentially replacing Timo Werner, whose loan deal at the club expires at the end of the season.

Although the German did just enough to get his loan extended in the summer after initially arriving in January, his record of just one assist from eight games across all competitions this season is not promising.

This is why Tottenham could choose not to take the option to make Werner’s loan permanent and replace him with Puado.

At 26, Puado is two years younger than the RB Leipzig loanee and can operate on either wing or as an attacking midfielder.

He has three goals to his name from eight La Liga appearances this season, although all of them came in Espanyol’s 3-2 win over Alaves on 14 September.
