Ange Postecoglou has placed Lecce full-back Patrick Dorgu at the top of his January transfer shortlist at Tottenham, according to GiveMeSport.
The news outlet reported on Friday (27 December) that Postecoglou has prioritised acquiring a new defender ahead of the winter transfer window.
Tottenham were urged to move for the 20-year-old last summer, but a transfer failed to materialise, and now Postecoglou faces stiff competition with Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Napoli and AC Milan in the hunt for his signature.
Tottenham should sign Lecce defender Patrick Dorgu
The Danish international has been making waves in the Serie A this season, and January could be the last chance for Tottenham to secure his services with strong interest in England and Italy.
While Destiny Udogie was a concern heading into the 1-0 loss against Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day, the Italian started the match at the City Ground, but concerns remain regarding his extensive workload.
With Ben Davies confirmed to be sidelined “for another couple of weeks”, Udogie will be tasked with operating the left-back spot alone heading into the New Year, with Premier League, Carabao Cup and FA Cup fixtures ahead.
Therefore, Postecoglou cannot solely keep his attention on solving the injury crisis in central defence and should focus on strengthening his depth across the backline.
Dorgu would be a worthwhile addition to the ranks in North London – he has followed his breakout campaign at Lecce last year in sensational fashion, scoring three goals in 16 Serie A appearances from left-back.
Tottenham have also been urged to make a move for Chelsea castaway Ben Chilwell by former player Jamie O’Hara, but with Dorgu being eight years his junior, the option in Italy is far more enticing.
Spurs could beat Premier League rivals to his signature, provide healthy competition for Udogie and future-proofing the position – there are far too many positives for Spurs not to attack this transfer in January.
