Dominic Calvert-Lewin is now expected to leave Everton upon the expiry of his contract amid growing interest from European clubs.
This is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that both parties now feel his time at Goodison Park has come to an end.
Football Insider exclusively revealed that Monaco have now joined the race to sign the 27-year-old ahead of the January transfer window and have had scouts at Goodison Park.
As things stand, Calvert-Lewin’s Everton contract is set to expire at the end of the season and he has turned down multiple offers to extend his stay.
In January, he will be able to enter negotiations with foreign clubs about a pre-contract move which would take place at the end of the season, sparking plenty of interest.
While Monaco are the latest club to show an interest, the likes of AC Milan, Newcastle and Arsenal have also been linked with a potential free transfer move.
Everton have been keen for him to stay at the club beyond the end of the season, but Brown has insisted the striker’s mind has already been made up after rebuffing their advances.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin makes Everton contract decision
Brown previously told Football Insider that Everton are working on signing a new striker in January as they want to strengthen their options to lead the line.
Now, the former scout who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after spending over a decade at Man United has insisted that it could become a priority in the summer as Calvert-Lewin is now likely to leave.
“They’re in a situation where currently it’s all in his hands,” he told Football Insider.
“He can agree to go where he likes in January, so Everton don’t hold the cards any more.
“That’s probably played a part in why they’ve been looking at signing a new striker because if he leaves they’re going to need one.
“I think his time at Goodison Park has come to and end, from his point of view and probably from the club’s point of view, even though they wanted to keep him.
“Over the years they’ve put a lot of faith in his return from fitness, but he hasn’t paid them back in terms of his form in front of goal.
“They offered him new deals and he’s turned them down so that’s where they’re at.
“Whether the decision is made in January or he waits until the end of the season will be up to him, but either way I think he’s leaving.
“And there won’t be a shortage of interest because he’ll be available for free.“
In other news, Everton’s takeover deal could be announced next week.
