Troy Deeney names the winger he believes is still better than Liverpool's Mohamed Salah

Troy Deeney has revealed that there is a winger in world football who he believes is currently better than Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.

Salah is enjoying a remarkable season for the Reds with 16 goals and 12 assists in just 22 appearances. The Egyptian scored the winning goal against Girona, firing his team into the Champions League Round of 16.

But despite his immense start to life under Arne Slot, Salah has been told by Deeney that there is still one winger who is better than him.

Troy Deeney prefers Vinicius Junior over Mohamed Salah

Troy Deeney has revealed that he prefers Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior to Mohamed Salah. Back in November, the former Watford striker stunned TalkSPORT listeners by claiming: “If I was asking my kids who want to be forwards, I would be saying I would like them to look at what Vinicius Jr does as opposed to Mohamed Salah.”

Deeney also claimed that Salah is ‘excellent but not world-class’ and when asked whether that is still the case, Deeney told TalkSPORT: “I am a fan, yeah. I’m just not a big fan of everyone saying that every single player is world-class. I was watching the Bayern Munich game yesterday and [Michael] Olise is ‘world-class’ now. If it was the best winger in world football right now, I would still take Vinicius Jr. That’s just my personal opinion.”

Vinicius is enjoying another strong campaign as he looks to respond to his snub in the race for the Balon d’Or after losing out to Rodri. Although Madrid haven’t quite been at their best this term with work to do in La Liga and the Champions League. Los Blancos trail Barcelona in the league and are 20th in the Champions League group stage.

How does Mohamed Salah’s stats compare to Vinicius Junior?

Salah and Vinicius are both putting up elite numbers this season, although the Liverpool man just about leads the way in goals and assists. Salah’s goal against Girona takes him to 16 in all competitions which is three more than the Brazilian.

He also has three more assists than Vini with 12 with both players showing they are more than just great goal scorers.

For now, it’s tricky to look past Salah when comparing him to Vinicius, especially when you consider the way the 32-year-old is carrying Liverpool. Given his form under Slot, Salah looks well on course to earn himself a new contract with Liverpool and potentially achieve some special at Anfield this season.
