John Wenham has described Ben Davies’ injury setback at Tottenham as “unbelievable.”
The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose is concerned about availability ahead of the Premier League clash with Chelsea at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday [8 December] after Ange Postecoglou’s latest injury update [via Football London, 6 December].
Davies hobbled off with an apparent hamstring injury in Spurs’ 1-0 Premier League defeat against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Thursday [5 December].
Therefore, Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – isn’t confident heading into the clash with Chelsea on Sunday.
“We just didn’t turn up at all against Bournemouth,” Wenham said.
“There was nothing from the midfield, we were completely overrun, and we had no control of the game whatsoever. I questioned to myself, will Bournemouth get an easier three points this season? Probably not.
“It was a really disappointing evening, topped off with the injury to Davies, which was just unbelievable. That is a big concern as we could now be without three of our first-choice centre-backs against Chelsea on Sunday. As a result, that could be a very bad day.”
Ben Davies to miss out for Tottenham against Chelsea?
Chelsea are flying high at the moment. Meanwhile, Spurs have won just one match in their last six and are heavily depleted.
Therefore, it would be difficult to blame supporters, who seem to be turning against Postecoglou, for feeling slightly pessimistic heading into the clash with Chelsea.
And it does almost feel as though the Australian’s position is beginning to be questioned at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
As a result, three points against Chelsea is vital. However, whether or not Spurs are in any position to claim those three points is an entirely different story.
In other Tottenham news, the club will jet a forward into the UK within days as a January signing is agreed.
