Neil Lennon was blown away by Philippe Clement’s choice to bring on Danilo in the Scottish League Cup final tie between Rangers and Celtic.
The game was very end-to-end throughout with both sides having their fair share of luck and perhaps some moments they’ll want to forget.
The game finished 3-3 after extra time, with Celtic ultimately triumphing 5-4 in a penalty shoot-out at Hampden Park on Sunday (15 December), with Daizen Maeda scoring the winning spot-kick after Ridvan Yilmaz had missed for the Gers.
Speaking live on Premier Sports (15 December, 17:21pm), former Celtic boss Lennon shared his thoughts on Clement’s decision to send on Danilo, with the striker scoring to make it 3-3 and force the additional time.
“This is unbelievable, it’s a great ball in, when you see him like that, you think should the goalkeeper come but he can’t,” he said.
“And he’s gone in between [Cameron Carter] Vickers and [Anthony] Ralston and he’s buried it, what a substitution that is, what a game and what a cup final.”

It was an absolute grandstand finish at Hampden Park in a pulsating Old Firm clash that swung this way and that, and it looked as though Celtic had got the job done when Nicolas Kuhn scored with just three minutes remaining.
But the drama was not quite finished as Danilo levelled just a minute later and only a couple of minutes after entering the fray himself, with Clement making an inspired decision to send him on.
What is a shame, though, is that Rangers couldn’t quite get the job done. It was a valiant effort but ultimately the Gers fell just short in a cruel penalty shoot-out defeat with Yilmaz’s miss what proved the difference.
It’s a huge a shame for Clement and his side, who have been showing great signs of improvement in recent weeks. Hopefully they can take heart from this valiant performance and still make something of this season, which started in such underwhelming circumstances.
