Neil McCann has lauded referee Marco Di Bello as Rangers secured a 4-0 win over FCSB at Ibrox on 24 October.
FCSB’s David Miculescu appeared to have given his side a shock lead as he capitalised on Jack Butland’s error, but Di Bello claimed that he made a foul on the English keeper and the goal did not stand.
Speaking on BBC Sportsound, as quoted by Football Scotland, McCann has praised the official and admitted that the Gers number one was lucky to get away with it.
He said: “Actually, it is a foul. It’s an unbelievably good decision. He does, Miculescu puts his left foot out, and I thought he kicked the ball – but he catches Butland’s boot and it goes back towards the goal. It’s a really good decision.
“There was one replay right at the death that was super slow, and it’s an incredibly good decision, it looks like.”
Rangers get the job done in Europe
The decision by Di Bello to disallow FCSB’s goal against Gers was indeed an impressive call due to its subtlety.
In real-time, the interaction between Miculescu and Butland appeared as a mere fumble by the goalkeeper, but after closer inspection, as highlighted by McCann, the Romanian’s foot made contact with Butland’s boot and not the ball.
This level of precision in spotting such a nuanced foul underlines Di Bello’s expertise, as the incident could easily have been missed or misjudged in the heat of the match.
Furthermore, Rangers’ 4-0 victory over FCSB showcases their ability to show up on the European stage.
It not only demonstrated their offensive prowess but also their defensive solidity, especially after the disallowed goal.
As things stand, they appear to be on course to secure a top-eight finish and hopefully, can build on from there.
