Cammy Bell still believes there’s some “nervousness” at Rangers despite their 1-0 victory over Hearts in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday.

The Gers got back to winning ways on 10 November thanks to a sixth-minute Cyriel Dessers strike against Hearts, which ended up being enough for a 1-0 win at Ibrox.

Speaking on the Scottish Football Podcast (11 November), ex-Rangers ‘keeper Bell thinks the under-fire Philippe Clement has bought himself some respite ahead of the international break but remains unimpressed by the team on the whole.

“It’s still unconvincing at the moment,” he said. “There’s a nervousness around Ibrox. There has been for a long time now.

“Yes, it’s three points and the international break and it’s probably come at a good time for him. Time for him to reset spend time with players on the training pitch, that are going to be available to him.

“It’ll take away the heat that’s been on him for the last few weeks.”

Philippe Clement is buying himself time at Rangers

Where the future of Clement lies is a mystery to all those involved with Rangers. There have been times this season when it’s felt like the Gers have had no other option but to sack him and yet, he’s still standing.

It’s clear that things need to vastly improve at Ibrox otherwise they could find themselves well and truly out of the title race and perhaps battling for third.

However, with the way things have gone this season, it’s felt like Clement’s men have crumbled when under high-pressure situations such as the first Old Firm derby of the season or their recent Scottish Premiership clash against Aberdeen.

But then, when facing teams such as Hearts or Dundee, the Gers seem to patch up their poor performance with a few mediocre wins and all seems to be forgiven by John Gilligan and co.

Fans need and deserve more from their team and if the Belgian can’t give them that, it feels like he should be relieved of his duties before it’s too late.
