Rapid Bucharest insist they will not be selling Albion Rrahmani this summer amid links to a Rangers move, the Daily Record reports.
According to an update on the paper’s website on 15 July (10.56am) that the Kosovan striker isn’t expected to leave the club as minority shareholder Victor Angelescu outlined plans to go into the new season with him as one of three forwards while ruling out a move for Fiorentina’s Louis Munteanu.
Rrahmani, 24, has been targeted by a number of clubs this summer after scoring 17 goal in his first season at Rapid and Football Scotland reported on 17 June a Romanian source had put Rangers in “pole position” to win the race.
At the time the outlet quoted the club’s president as saying the striker was a “very important” player for them and the only bid that had yet arrived was not sufficient for them to consider.
Sam Lammers and Cyriel Dessers yet to leave Rangers
If the right money was put on the table it is quite possible that Rapid would consider a deal but the issue at Ibrox is that the cash appears not to be available yet.
Philippe Clement has now publicly stated that the Light Blues have to sell to buy [Rangers Review, 13 July] so with exit-linked forwards Sam Lammers and Cyriel Dessers still at the club it is unlikely that a big move can be made for a replacement.
Neil Lennon’s presence as manager at the Romanian side has been jokingly tipped to push Rrahmani’s price up but whether that is the case or not it looks like the they would only do business with any side for a huge fee.
Hamza Igamane has been signed to join the striker group but Clement has already claimed the Moroccan is not ready to have an immediate impact [Rangers Review, 11 July].
So while Danilo is coming back from injury and has been backed by Kris Boyd in the Scottish Sun (5 July) to have a major part to play it would surely make fans a lot more comfortable to see a proven option come in.
Whether Rrahmani would be the right target to fill that role is up for debate but looks to be a moot point at present.
In other Rangers news, senior Ibrox transfer exits are now deemed “inevitable” as four players are named.
