Dominic Solanke could lose his place in the Tottenham starting XI already after a poor showing against Arsenal on Sunday (15 September).
Spurs fell to yet another North London derby defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as Gabriel’s header was the difference between the two sides.
Ange Postecoglou’s side had their chances but were unable to take them as the Gunners’ defensive quality prevailed.
This could see club-record signing Solanke dropped given his lack of impact since signing from Bournemouth for £65million [BBC Sport].
Dominic Solanke struggles for Tottenham against Arsenal
The 27-year-old is yet to net his first goal for Spurs since signing over the summer and against Arsenal never looked like opening his account.
This saw Matthew Upson suggest that the former Chelsea man was having “a rough start” to his career in North London, while speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live (15 September).
It was a disappointing showing from the striker, who was only able to clock up one shot across the 90 minutes which was blocked [FotMob].
It hardly came as a surprise that the Englishman couldn’t get many shots off given that he had 28 touches, with just four in the Gunners’ penalty area.
There was a general lack of service to Solanke but to have that few touches going forward just isn’t good enough.
His dribbling was also frustrating to watch as he had a zero per cent success rate in two attempts with the away side dispossessing him with ease at times.
What will frustrate Postecoglou even more is that the six-foot-two forward lost six aerial duels throughout the derby while winning just 40 per cent of ground duels.
This was done while the ex-Bournemouth star committed four fouls, which summed up the lack of impact he was able to have on the game.
Spurs have an EFL Cup tie with Coventry City on Wednesday (18 September) that has now taken on more importance, and it would not be a surprise to see Postecoglou try something different.
