Dejan Kulusevski’s “beautiful” goal for Tottenham against Liverpool was hailed by Ally McCoist and underlined a superb overall performance.
Speaking on talkSPORT (23 December, 6:12am), McCoist singled Kulusevski out as one of few Spurs players to come away from their 6-3 humbling on 22 December with much credit, having made it 5-2 after 72 minutes.
Kulusevski played the full 90 on the right flank and arrived in the middle to volley home from Dominic Solanke’s lobbed pass, but his superb finish came far too late for the Lilywhites to turn things around.
McCoist said: “I’ll tell you what, I could watch that Kulusevski all day. Beautiful, beautiful goal.”
Dejan Kulusevski dazzles despite Tottenham thrashing v Liverpool
Kulusevski’s over-the-shoulder volley was one of the few bright spots for the Lilywhites on Sunday, and one of even fewer moments that Spurs fans won’t be skipping past when it comes to watching the highlights.
It was one of three shots in total by the Swede throughout the contest and the only one on target, as Kulusevski produced 0.47 xG and 0.74 xGOT in total [FotMob], with another effort blocked.
The 24-year-old completed 80 per cent of his 30 attempted passes [SofaScore], playing two into the final third and creating a chance in the process, as well as having 14 total touches in the Liverpool box.
Kulusevski and his Spurs teammates were certainly up against it for much of the match, with just 40 per cent of the winger’s dribbles being successful and nine of his 18 ground duels going the same way.
Regardless, Tottenham’s number 21 put in plenty of work at the other end too, winning 100 per cent of his tackles [FotMob], three free-kicks and corners apiece, and recovered possession on seven occasions.
Few players have excelled as consistently as Kulusevski has so far this term, and if Spurs can solve their all-too-evident defensive worries, Ange Postecoglou can allow his star wideman to truly flourish.
In other Tottenham news, a “shock” January approach has been made for one player at the North Londoners.
