Winter takes aim at Levy and Tottenham recruitment after what Postecoglou said

Henry Winter has pointed the finger at Daniel Levy and the recruitment after Liverpool’s dominance over Tottenham on Sunday.

Ange Postecoglou argued that had Arne Slot been without multiple of his players, much like Spurs were missing Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Guglielmo Vicario, his side may have struggled too.

That was not the case, though, as Spurs were annihilated 6-3 at the Hotspur Stadium on Sunday 22 December, seeing Postecoglou’s side handed their eighth defeat of the Premier League season.

Writing via his personal blog [23 December], Winter said: “‘If you took out Liverpool’s goalkeeper, two centre-backs and a left-back, even Liverpool, I think they might find it tough going as well,’ Postecoglou said.

“Well, not completely. Liverpool are missing Ibrahima Konate. Joe Gomez has stepped in admirably. Caoimhin Kelleher, Jarell Quansah and Kostas Tsimikas would also step up. Trent Alexander-Arnold’s possible loss to Real Madrid will partly be offset by Conor Bradley’s excellence.

“So Postecoglou’s riposte is really a critique of Tottenham’s recruitment. The lack of cover is down to Daniel Levy and the club. Postecoglou should be a force for good and change at Spurs, bringing more ambition for silverware, but the team balance is patently wrong.”

Supporters will absolutely agree with Winter, here. Fan-led protests took place ahead of the heavyweight clash on Sunday evening, hitting back at Levy’s lack of investment on the pitch [GiveMeSport].

That was clear to see as Fraser Forster continued to make mistakes in Vicario’s absence while Radu Dragusin and Archie Gray made up the backline against the rampant Reds.

With the January transfer window coming up, Postecoglou has the perfect chance to sign the required additions to the squad, but no one in North London is holding their breath when it comes to Levy opening his wallet.

The owner continues to come up with brilliant avenues for producing income and interesting revenue streams but barely any of that profit reaches the squad, much to the frustration of the fans.

Postecoglou also needs to stop making excuses for his team’s losses. Spurs have lost more games than they have won in the Premier League this term and performances in Europe have not been much better.
