Everton have announced their decision on the expiring contracts of numerous academy players for this summer, including the highly-rated Roman Dixon, as reported on the club’s official website.

Via evertonfc.com [4 June], the club confirmed 19-year-old Dixon has been offered a new deal at Goodison Park, alongside duo Jacob Beaumont-Clark and Bradley Moonan, who will become his Under-21 teammates next season should they all agree terms.

The right-back has progressed through the ranks at Finch Farm since Under-12 level and has represented England’s U16 side.

Everton also listed the young professionals who would be departing.

“Everton can confirm Lewis Warrington, Mackenzie Hunt, Katia Kouyate, Kyle John, Ed Jones and Dylan Graham will leave the club when their current contracts expire at the end of this month,” the statement read.

“Under-21s defender Roman Dixon, along with Jacob Beaumont-Clark and Bradley Moonan – who are set to move up to Paul Tait’s squad next season – have been offered new deals with the club.”

Roman Dixon among players Everton want to retain

Everton clearly see a pathway to successful first-team progress for Dixon following the club’s announcement, especially given highly-rated youngsters such as Lewis Warrington and Mackenzie Hunt have been shown the exit door.

The teenager has made 24 outings for Paul Tait’s U21 side this season, including as a like-for-like substitute for Seamus Coleman following the club captain’s long-awaited return to fitness with the youngsters last November.

Should Dixon agree to stay on Merseyside, the next step could be more regular involvement with Sean Dyche’s first-team squad in pre-season and into the 2024-25 campaign, and time is on the defender’s side with two seasons remaining of eligibility for regular PL2 football with Tait’s U21s.

Everton chief Kevin Thelwell has wished the departing youngsters well for the future

Plenty of youngsters have been named on the bench and given their chance down the years at Goodison, and Dixon will know that consistent displays for the academy side and the eagerness to learn from the likes of Coleman, Ashley Young and Ben Godfrey will enable a promising path to develop.

In other Everton news, Manchester United are reportedly unclear on the fee the Toffees would consider for Jarrad Branthwaite.
