St Mirren secured an upset as they managed to pick up the three points against Rangers at Paisley on Boxing Day in the SPFL.

Oisin Smyth opened the scoring for the hosts, sending his team into a 1-0 lead at half time.

However, Philippe Clement made changes at half time and brought on Danilo who scored an equaliser in the 61st minute but Caolon Boyd-Munce’s strike saw the visitors win 2-1.

Here are our player ratings for the game:

Jack Butland – 4

Made a costly error in the first half as he completely misjudged the flight of the ball and took the man out instead. He got a deserved yellow and failed to stop the penalty he conceded. He looked nervy all game and did little to make the defenders ahead of him feel more secure.

James Tavernier – 4

While there were no glaring errors barring a few misplaced passes, his body language did not evoke the feeling of a player happy to be where he is. He did not appear to be playing with the intensity of somebody fighting for his place in the team. His crosses were also all over the place in what was an underwhelming display from the captain.

Leon Balogun – 6

Barely played before he needed to be taken off after 19 minutes with an injury. Until then, he put in a solid showing defensively and made four clearances as well.

Dujon Sterling – 4

Started the game well but then made a series of silly errors that led to the concession of chances and eventually the second goal. This was one of his worst games of the season and he did little to justify why he deserves to be starting regularly.

Jefte – 5

While it was a better performance than the ones in recent weeks, it was still far from impressive from the Brazilian. He failed to complete a single cross and while he attacked and held the width well, he’s got to improve with his final product.

Mohamed Diomande – 5

Given the high standards he’s set in recent weeks, this was an underwhelming display and one he would want to forget about. Only when Raskin came on did we see him performing to the level that is expected from him week in and week out.

Connor Barron – 4

Failed to do the basics – something he’s been good at recently. He gave away the ball needlessly, did not track his runners and was even found out of position on a few occasions. Was rightly taken off at half-time by Clement.

Vaclav Cerny – 7

Was one of the few bright sparks for Rangers as he kept getting involved in play and looked to make things happen for the visitors. He even had a pass accuracy north of 90 per cent and was unlucky to not have an assist to his name.

Nedim Bajrami – 2

Endured a pretty terrible first half and was rightly taken off at the break. The game appeared to pass him by in a position where he should’ve helped link the midfield to the attack. He ended up losing possession on numerous occasions and the team looked way better without him on the field of play.

Ianis Hagi – 4

Had decent games of late, but this was a harsh reality check for Hagi and showed he’s got a long way to go if he is to succeed at Rangers. He struggled to do anything in the final third, be it creating chances for his teammates or get himself into the attacking areas.

Hamza Igamane – 5

Had a glorious chance to score for Gers and he failed to take it. Playing in such games and leading the line, a striker of his pedigree needs to be putting those into the back of the net. He looked better when Danilo came on but that cannot be an excuse.

Subs

Robin Propper – 3

Came off the bench for Balogun and offered absolutely nothing. Made a couple of glaring errors too.

Nicolas Raskin – 6

Managed to impose some control in midfield once he came off the bench and he raised Diomande’s game as well.

Danilo – 7

Scored the only goal for the visitors and offered a different dynamic in attack that was lacking in his absence.

Ridvan Yilmaz – 3

Was brought on to be an upgrade on Jefte, but his arrival actually weakened the left side. A poor display from the Turkey international.

Cyriel Dessers – 4

Completed just one pass since he came on and was relatively a passenger until the end of the game.

In other Rangers news, a player who made over 50 appearances last season may not start another game for the club.
