Glenn Hoddle was wowed by Guglielmo Vicario after what he did in the first half for Tottenham against Ferencvaros.

Ange Postecoglou’s side go in at the break in Budapest on Thursday (3 October) in the lead thanks to a Pape Matar Sarr strike.

This did come against the run of play with the home side having the better of the chances early on forcing the Spurs goalkeeper into a string of excellent saves.

Former Tottenham star Hoddle was left astounded live on TNT Sport [18:04] after the Italian kept the ball out with multiple superb stops.

He said: “Unbelievable stop. What a save, what a reactional save that is, absolutely top class.”

There was plenty to admire about the Tottenham keeper in the first half, despite conceding a goal which was eventually ruled out by VAR.

His ability on the ball has rarely been questioned and it was on show once again in the opening exchanges in the Groupama Aréna.

The Italian was only afforded 16 touches of the ball but he was able to make nine passes, maintaining a 90 per cent completion rate against the Hungarian outfit [FotMob].

Despite some efforts at him being judged to be offside, the 27-year-old made one diving save in the opening 45 minutes.

There was a period where the home side was on top and were able to get five shots off with a 0.5 expected goals tally.

Vicario was able to deal with a corner in the first half as Ferencvaros had two attempts but were unable to breach the former Empoli man between the sticks who made one high claim.

The keeper also registered five recoveries and four throws as he was kept busy throughout the half, as he went back into the dressing rooms as an early hero already.
