Lucá Williams-Barnett could be handed his Tottenham debut against Ipswich Town this weekend.
Spurs will welcome the Tractor Boys to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for a Premier League clash on Sunday (10 November).
Ange Postecoglou’s side will be looking to bounce back after their 3-2 loss to Galatasaray at RAMS Park on Thursday (7 November), their first defeat in the UEFA Europa League this season.
Dominic Solanke stepped off the bench and made an impact for Spurs in Istanbul, with Postecoglou perhaps making a mistake by leaving the striker out in the first place.
However, there was a player who Spurs supporters were perhaps more surprised to see named on the bench than Solanke.
That player was 16-year-old Williams-Barnett.
The forward, who has been in sensational form this season, was handed his first taste of a senior matchday squad in Turkey. As per Tom Barclay via X (7 November), the talented youngster was meant to be in school that day.
However, he was in a Europa League squad instead, and this Sunday, he could find himself in a Premier League one.
Lucá Williams-Barnett to start on the bench for Tottenham v Ipswich Town?
Postecoglou hasn’t been afraid to give young players a chance this season, as has been seen with Mikey Moore and Will Lankshear.
And considering the number of absentees the Australian currently has in his squad, Williams-Barnett could become the latest beneficiary.
Speaking ahead of the clash with Ipswich Town, during which the Spurs boss shared an update on Cristian Romero’s availability, Postecoglou confirmed that both Moore and Timo Werner will miss out on Sunday (via Football London, 8 November).
That leaves Son Heung-min as the only available senior left winger. Therefore, fresh off his inclusion in the Europa League, Williams-Barnett could once again be on Spurs’ bench.
And if he does start on the bench, there is every chance he will feature in the match, especially if things are going well for Tottenham in the closing stages.
Moore has quickly established himself as a first-team player this season, and he is still only 17.
As a result, there is no reason why 16-year-old Williams-Barnett can’t follow in his footsteps.
In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou’s January transfer priority has been shared.
