'I've heard...' - Lilywhite Rose expects 'Phenomenal' Tottenham gem to exit club in June

John Wenham expects 20-year-old Tottenham goalkeeper Aaron Maguire to leave the club in June when his contract expires.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose was full of praise for the shot-stopper.

Maguire recently put in a “superb” performance as Spurs’ Under-21s and Ebbsfleet United played out a 1-1 draw in the group stages of the National League Cup at the Kuflink Stadium (via Spurs’ Official Website, 29 October).

However, Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – still thinks there are two players ahead of Maguire in the pecking order.

“I still expect Maguire to leave the club in the summer when his contract expires,” Wenham said.

“Unfortunately he has two keepers ahead of him who the club value higher. Luca Gunter, who is contracted until 2028, and Josh Keeley, who is contracted until 2027.

“With Gunter unavailable, Maguire came in and put in a phenomenal performance, which will help him in his future prospects beyond Spurs.

“I’ve heard good things about Maguire, he works hard and challenges the other keepers. However, I think there are two outstanding keepers ahead of him who Tottenham will prioritise the futures of.”

Ange Postecoglou to allow Aaron Maguire to leave Tottenham?

Keeley is currently making an impact on loan with Leyton Orient. Meanwhile, Gunter is seen as the clear first-choice Under-21s goalkeeper.

In addition, with the likes of 17-year-old Sam Archer also starting to make a name for himself, it seems as though there just isn’t any space for Maguire in North London.

As a result, Ange Postecoglou is unlikely to stand in the way of the player leaving.

It seems as though Maguire has made an impact on those behind the scenes at Tottenham. Therefore, while his future might not lie in North London, everybody connected with the club is likely to wish him all the best in his future endeavours.

In other Tottenham news, Daniel Levy could make a statement by signing Sunderland wonderkid Chris Rigg.
