Ally McCoist was in awe of Robin Propper’s switch of play to help set up one of Rangers’ chances in the 4-1 defeat against Lyon on Thursday (3 October).

The centre-back was incredibly accurate with his cross-field pass to Vaclav Cerny on the right flank, who cut in to create a chance, which was eventually snuffed out by the visitors at Ibrox.

Propper has experienced a mixed start to life in Scotland as he continues to build a partnership with John Souttar, and McCoist was quick to applaud the Dutchman for his early impact.

Speaking live via TNT Sports on Thursday (3 October, 8:04pm), McCoist said: “It [Rangers chance] all comes from the switch of play, and what a switch of play it was from Robin Propper.

“It’s a tremendous ball out to Cerny on the right-hand side. It’s some switch, right over the head of Tagliofico.”

Robin Propper earns rave reviews in Rangers v Lyon

Propper seems to have found it slightly difficult to adjust to life in Glasgow since making his summer move from FC Twente, but he finally looks to be finding his feet.

The Dutchman may have even felt unlucky not to be involved in the goals after his fine pass out to Cerny, though the Wolfsburg loanee looks to be struggling with confidence at the moment.

While there were positive signs during the first half, such as Propper’s passing and Tom Lawrence’s equaliser, Philippe Clement would have been pulling his hair out if he had any.

The Gers showed bright sparks against tough opposition but simple mistakes gifted the Ligue 1 side far too many chances to capitalise, which is what the likes of Malick Fofana and Alexandre Lacazette did.

Fans will be disappointed by the end result at Ibrox, especially given the positive signs after the opening few minutes, but there was a clear gulf in class between the two sides.

In other Rangers news, Darrell Currie says Philippe Clement was “furious” about a player development recently.
