Richard Keys believes Tottenham will be facing a fine after the late kickoff for the second half in the 4-1 win against West Ham United.
Ange Postecoglou’s side returned to winning ways at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium courtesy of goals by Dejan Kulusevski, Yves Bissouma, Son Heung-min and a West Ham own goal.
However, the return for the second half surpassed the allocated 15 minutes on Saturday (19 October), and as Keys shared during the live coverage on beIN Sports [19 October, 1:34pm], a fine similar to the one given to Manchester City could be heading Spurs’ way.
He said: “We are past the 15 minutes allocated [for half-time].
“That might now lead to a fine for Tottenham. You’ll remember Manchester City were 22-time offenders.”
Tottenham half-time talk worked a treat against West Ham United
Postecoglou may take a fine every week depending on the amount as his half-time team talk – plus the big call to replace James Maddison, enforced or otherwise – worked wonders for his Tottenham side.
Manchester City received a £2m fine from the Premier League for delayed kick-off times [BBC Sport, 31 July], so should a fine land on the desk in North London, it will be worth nothing in comparison to a monumental victory against the Hammers.
Bissouma and Son scored either side of an own goal from Jean-Clair Todibo completing an eight-minute rout in the second half.
Postecoglou finally claimed his first victory in a London derby at the eighth attempt and did so in humiliating fashion for his West Ham counterparts, in a perfect response to the shock 3-2 loss against Brighton before the international break.
Spurs showed great resolve to overturn the one-goal deficit courtesy of Mohammed Kudus and, while not all the players pulled their weight, the positives of a resounding result outweigh the negatives.
This result is exactly the statement of intent the Tottenham fans wanted to see from the side after a mixed start to the season. Fingers crossed this can be the turning point in the Premier League.
In other Tottenham news, Spurs have been told to start Mikey Moore and Will Lankshear in the Europa League.
