Ange Postecoglou will be delighted after seeing Tottenham loanee Dane Scarlett score his first goal for Oxford United.

Scarlett hasn’t enjoyed the most productive spell on loan with Oxford United in the Championship thus far.

He has struggled for game time at the Kassam Stadium, leading to speculation about the striker potentially being recalled to North London.

However, it looks as though he finally got the boost he needed in the 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion at the Kassam Stadium in the Championship on Saturday (19 October).

With his side trailing after Karlen Grant had opened the scoring for the visitors during the first half, Scarlett stepped off the bench in the 64th minute, and on his seventh Oxford United appearance, finally got his first goal for the club.

As per Sofascore, he also completed 100 per cent of his passes, won two of his three ground duels and made one interception. However, it was his goal which would have caught Postecoglou’s eye.

With just seconds remaining, the 20-year-old headed home an equaliser for the home side, which could prove to be huge for both the player and Postecoglou.

Scarlett knows where the back of the net is, something he proved during the October international break.

However, since first bursting on the scene in North London, he has really struggled to make a name for himself, with multiple loan spells not breaking his way.

Therefore, he would’ve been hopeful that some time with Oxford United would help, and was likely discouraged by his slow start.

However, now that he has got his first goal under his belt, Postecoglou will be hoping to see him fly.

It was a big goal as well, an equaliser against a top Championship team in the closing moments. As a result, it should give the striker plenty of confidence to continue building.

And if he can, Postecoglou will hope that a much more mature and well-rounded footballer returns to Hotspur Way when his loan spell comes to an end.

Scarlett is one of Spurs’ own, and the fans would no doubt love to see him succeed.
