It is no secret that Everton have been crying out for an improvement in attack in recent seasons.

Although the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto have led the Toffees’ line, their returns have been underwhelming to say the least.

So, it doesn’t come as much of a surprise that the future of Calvert-Lewin was under some scrutiny across the summer transfer window.

The striker’s contract runs out at the end of the 2024/25 season and, with no extension yet in sight, Sean Dyche needs to prepare himself for life without the 27-year-old.

That’s where Elijah Adebayo comes in. The Luton Town ace was linked with Everton during and after the transfer window with Dyche even reportedly making the striker his “top target” for January [Alan Nixon, 1 September].

Adebayo was in stellar form for the Hatters last term and, despite the club getting relegated, the striker still managed to bag 10 Premier League goals.

While this number might not seem the highest, the Englishman outperformed both Beto and Calvert-Lewin.

What would Elijah Adebayo bring to Everton

Of all Luton’s players last term, there’s no denying that Adebayo was the standout performer.

Without the 26-year-old, it’s highly unlikely that Rob Edwards’ men would’ve been in contention to retain their Premier League status for as long as they did.

The striker would bring a proven goalscorer to Dyche’s side and would even potentially help make the most out of the likes of Iliman Ndiaye and Jesper Lindstrom.

Carlton Palmer predicted that a deal for the number nine would cost Everton somewhere around the £15-£20million mark with Luton willing to let the attacker go for a fee in that region [Football League World, 5 September].

Dominic Calvert-Lewin could be moved on by Everton if he doesn’t sign a new contract

If there’s no sign of Calvert-Lewin wanting to extend his stay at Goodison Park, he will have to be shipped off in January so that the Toffees don’t lose him for nothing.

His sale could allow Dyche a way to make a move for Adebayo and perhaps even bolster their chances of avoiding yet another Premier League relegation battle.
