Ally McCoist and Alan Brazil see no chance of Tottenham signing Paul Pogba despite the midfielder being available on a free transfer.
The 31-year-old can resume training in January 2025 and start playing again in March after having his doping ban reduced to 18 months [BBC], and has, meanwhile, agreed to terminate his contract with Juventus on 30 November.
Spurs were floated as a potential destination for the Frenchman on talkSPORT on Wednesday [20 November, 6:27 am], but McCoist and Brazil were having none of it.
McCoist said: “There has never been a player who existed that is more non-Ange [Postecoglou] than Pogba. No chance. Big Ange, no chance he’s taking Pogba.”
Brazil, meanwhile, dubbed Pogba a “busted flush” and added that Daniel Levy would not be enticed by the idea of having the midfielder at Tottenham.
“Busted flush. That’d be the end,” he said. “I think Daniel [Levy] will be like, ‘No, no, no, I don’t think so’.
“He’s a massive question mark. You look what he’s won, you look what he can do and yet, can you trust him? No.”
Paul Pogba to seal Tottenham transfer?
There is no doubt about Pogba’s footballing talent and at 31 years of age and as a free agent, he would offer value to several European clubs, but Tottenham are not one of them.
The North London giants have six options in midfield, including Yves Bissouma, Rodrigo Bentancur, Pape Matar Sarr and Dejan Kulusevski.
James Maddison, with all his attacking prowess, has found his playing time limited under Postecoglou in recent weeks, amassing just 14 minutes of league action in their last two games, while Lucas Bergvall, 18, is also waiting on the sidelines.
Therefore, it would not make sense to add Pogba into the mix, especially as he would be on significantly high wages.
However, it would not be a surprise to see Spurs strengthen other areas of the pitch in January, with Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey mooted as a target [Football Transfers].
Postecoglou is also set to add 18-year-old Yang Min-hyeok, who they have already agreed to sign from Gangwon to his ranks. The club have requested the Korean attacker to report for training in December to get up to speed [The Chosun Ilbo].
Everyone can forget about this one, instantly.
