Kris Boyd makes Celtic jibe live on Sky Sports as Rangers lose v Lyon

Kris Boyd made a cheeky dig at Celtic after Rangers were hit by a 4-1 defeat to Lyon in the Europa League on Thursday (3 October).

The Gers went toe-to-toe with the Ligue 1 side in the opening stages of the clash at Ibrox, with Tom Lawrence cancelling out Malick Fofana’s opener, though he and Alexandre Lacazette were just too much to handle.

Despite this, Boyd chose to see the funny side of the result, referencing Celtic’s 7-1 humbling against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday 1 October.

Speaking via Sky Sports on Thursday (3 October), he said: “It’s hard to believe Rangers lost 4-1 this evening and it’s not even the worst result for a Scottish team in Europe this week. Unbelievable.”

While it is such an easy jibe to make live on air, he knows exactly what he’s doing and who he’s bound to wind up, and Rangers fans will love him for it, especially after the Lyon thrashing.

The Gers did show positive signs against an extremely difficult opposition, one who are consistently featuring in European competitions and facing elite teams, so that makes it easier to find the funnier side.

Fans of the Old Firm rivals will, obviously, bring up the fact they’re in a harder competition, having qualified by winning the Scottish Premiership last season, the Gers will not care whatsoever.

While there were good signs at Ibrox, Philippe Clement will have found several aspects of the performance that need working on if the Gers are to challenge the Hoops in Scotland.

Boyd is always on the wind-up, attempting to annoy the Celtic fans, and that might just be what was needed for the supporters following the defeat to Lyon on Thursday night.
